The American DJ and music producer Diplo claims to have taken LSD before and during the recent Los Angeles Marathon, which he completed in a respectful 3 hours and 55 minutes.
After the race, Diplo used Instagram to announce that he ran the race on acid, although the original reel has since been removed by the platform for apparently “violating community standards”.
After mentioning how he was underprepared for the 26.2 miles distance, the music star went on to say, “I did what any normal person would do and took LSD”.
A video was also posted to his Twitter account on March 20th which appears to show him dose his water bottle with five drops of a clear liquid, from a small pipet, a voice in the background can be heard saying, “you need about four drops of LSD”.
People have been enjoying psychedelics while doing sports such as snowboarding, skiing, surfing, and mountain biking for years. However, it is still unclear to scientists if using them would boost a person’s physical performance.
Psychedelics, as well as cannabis, are rapidly becoming more accepted in many parts of western culture. Governments, and the scientific, medical and pharmaceutical professions are starting to see the potential these substances have. Not just for medicinal purposes such as for treating mental illness at the ketamine clinics that are opening up around the world, but also for recreational purposes too.
In America for example, the NFL has recently announced that they will stop testing their athletes for cannabis. At roughly the same time, one of the stars of the NFL, Aaron Rodgers claims to have had his best season to date thanks to ayahuasca. While Diplo appeared to finish his LA Marathon race without coming to harm, the advice from the magazine Runner’s World is, “not to do anything new on race day”.
